Serafin Ensemble’s AMERICAN SALUTE

SERAFIN ENSEMBLE’S AMERICAN SALUTEDigital Program Artists: Hal Grossman and Kate Ransom, violin; Amadi Azikiwe, viola; Jacques-Pierre Malan, cello As Veteran’s Day approaches, this program pays tribute to our country, featuring compositions written in America from the 1890’s to today. Represented here is an eclectic array of works by African American composers William Grant Still and Florence Price, Jewish composer Peter Schickele, and the living composer Jennifer Higdon. Complementing a reflective and soulful set of works (a setting of “Amazing Grace” and works titled “Adoration” and “Little Suite for Autumn”) will be Still’s lively Panamanian Dances, and closes with the ever-popular “American Quartet” by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, written during the time he lived in the United States. The program traverses a vast creative landscape inspired by the grand diversity of our land and people. Let the sublime sounds of the Serafin Ensemble sweep you away. Experience the passion and intimacy of their violin, viola, and cello as this award-winning ensemble fills the Milton Theatre with some of the most powerful chamber music ever written. About Serafin Ensemble Website | Facebook | Video Serafin Ensemble, “The Serafins,” is a group of internationally acclaimed performing artists (string, wind, piano and vocalists) devoted to collaborative chamber music performances of repertoire for up to eight players. The ensemble evolved from the former Serafin String Quartet and continues the nearly two-decade-long Serafin legacy of passionate commitment to presenting exceptional performances of small ensemble repertoire. Serafin Ensemble roster artists are devoted to collaborative chamber music performance as an important aspect of their professional lives. They are bound together by mutual respect and camaraderie, and a shared passion for small ensemble repertoire and the collaborative process. The goal of the ensemble is to prepare and share with audiences, performances of great masterworks and lesser-known works for an unconducted ensemble of two to eight players. Occasionally, larger works or solo works are also included in the programming. The individual roster artists of Serafin Ensemble have been heralded around the globe for concerts and recordings, acclaimed in the press, and received international prizes and awards.  Serafin Ensemble takes its name from master violin maker, Sanctus Serafin, who in 1728 crafted the violin currently played by Serafin founder and Artistic Director, Kate Ransom. The Serafin String Quartet thrived for over two decades thanks, in part, to generous support from Dr. William J. Stegeman, Ph.D.

The Dave Matthews Tribute Band

For over 20 years, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band has been performing sold out shows around the world; playing over 2,000 concerts in 46 states and 9 countries. Throughout the years, the band has evolved from a bar hopping cover band into a dedicated and true tribute band with one goal; to recreate the classic Dave Matthews Band sound so many of us know and love. About The Dave Matthews Tribute Band Website | Facebook | YouTube Since 2004, the DMTB’s ruthless touring schedule has been unparalleled. There is no prefix song title to name the group, and the DMTB is the only nationally touring tribute to the Dave Matthews Band. Like so many DMB fans, we can’t help but miss the iconic sounds of a high energy violin balanced with jazzy saxophone lines, or a sparkling acoustic guitar supported by smooth bass and explosive drumming. That is the magic sound that captivated so many of us all those years ago, and the Dave Matthews Tribute Band aims to bring that sonic joy back for all to share. While most DMB fans never witnessed the real band before they became the platinum-selling artists they are today, The Dave Matthews Tribute Band prides itself on giving audiences this opportunity at intimate venues as well as iconic clubs and outdoor stages around the world. As Rick Grant of Entertaining U in Jacksonville, FL wrote, “The Dave Matthews Tribute Band turned out to exceed its billing as a quality improvisational band that uses Dave Matthews material as themes to improvise. Clearly, this distinguishes them from the other so-called tribute bands. The band is exceptionally tight and produces a solid groove over which the players improvise with hot chops.” Beyond mastering the DMB sound and the relentless touring, what separates The Dave Matthews Tribute Band from other cover bands is their attention to detail and to the nuances of DMB and their music. The DMTB aims to transport the listener back in time. That is what makes you come out of one of their shows saying, “Yeah, they really do sound like the real Dave Matthews Band!”

About Atomic Light Orchestra Website | Facebook | YouTube ALO: Atomic Light Orchestra pays tribute to the music of ELO and The Traveling Wilburys with faithful, near record-like versions of all your favorite songs. Of course all the hits are here but so are the deep album tracks that you’ll remember. You’ll feel like you’re back in your bedroom at your parent’s house on the street where you grew up! Guaranteed to have you dancing and singing along, all night long. Reproducing the sound of ELO is a tough task. Just ask any musician. This band has the goods. Dennis Schocket’s (guitars and lead vocals) voice is directly influenced by Jeff Lynne. “I think Jeff is quite possibly the greatest, most under rated pop vocalist ever.” Gregg Simmons (lead guitar and lead vocals) is known for his great fret work but it’s his incredible falsetto that gets him noticed here. Gregg says “You can’t make ELO music without the high notes!” He’s right of course. Veteran keyboardist, John Kelly (keys, guitar and lead vocals) takes on the multiple rolls of keys and strings with effortless grace and joy. John says “This music is just so beautifully crafted.” Violinist Greta Thomas is the newest member of the band. She brings her classically trained excellence to every song. Multi-instrumentalist Bronson Wagner (bass, keys and lead vocals) has the difficult task of reproducing that epic ELO bass rumble, but does so with style and flair. Anchoring all this is drummer Phil Brotman, doing his best Bev Bevan impersonation. “I love this music. It’s just full of joy and love.”
