Every Friday and Saturday night, in the basement of O’Flaherty’s Ale House on Manhattan’s Restaurant Row, Brad and a small group of piano players faced off on two Casio Celviano keyboards for a four-hour singalong with an audience that grew from 10 to far beyond legal capacity. From there the show moved through several incarnations and locales over the course of a decade, from Times Square to Virginia Beach, and eventually landed at Bar Nine in NYC, where Brad and fellow performer James Barr formed THE FLYING IVORIES.With a rotating roster of top performers from around the country, THE FLYING IVORIES deliver an all-request, rock and roll sing-along for weddings, fundraisers, company outings, holidays, birthdays, bachelorette parties, virtual events and more.

Capturing the energy and excitement of big band jazz, Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Ensemble II are standard instrumentation big bands with saxophone, trombone, trumpet and rhythm sections as well as solo vocalists. The ensembles perform regularly on campus, exploring a wide variety of music, past and present. Each year a well-known guest artist performs with the bands. Past guests include Arturo Sandoval, Harry Connick, Jr., Denis DiBlasio, Phil Woods, John Fedchock, Jeff Coffin, Dizzy Gillespie, Roger Ingram, Ingrid Jensen, Kenny Werner, Steve Wilson and the Brazilian group Minas. Jazz Ensemble I performs frequently off campus in area schools, jazz festivals and concert venues.

About Chesapeake Silver Cornett Brass Band Official Website | Facebook | VideoFormed in 1996, the Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band is comprised of amateur and professional musicians from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Following the brass banding tradition, we are an all-volunteer organization. The band performs a varied repertoire of contemporary and traditional brass band music throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The Chesapeake Brass Band is Delaware’s only 35 piece all-brass concert band developed in the tradition of British Brass Bands formed during England’s industrial revolution of the late 1800’s. Performances feature light classics, marches, big band, swing and blues with a narrative to add humor and educational value to the concert.

Combining tradition with innovation, Simple Gifts creates some of the finest arrangements in folk music today: swing fiddle creeps into a Romanian dance, spoons show up in an Irish reel, and a blues lick introduces a Klezmer melody. Based in the hills of central Pennsylvania, these women play an amazing array of instruments. Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon switch with ease among fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, guitjo, recorders, bowed psaltery, hammered dulcimer, baritone fiddle, guitar, and percussion. Keith Turner grew up playing piano in the golden age of R & B, Classic Rock, and Motown,the 60’s & 70’s. He studied music at CCC while writing and performing originals and ELP for his class which included the late Billy Paul. Keith was ecstatic when asked to play in Tarkus. Keith Emerson was one of my earliest influences shall we say “From the Beginning! Mike is a well respected multi-instrumentalist out of the New Jersey/Philadelphia area. Coming from a musical family, Mike starting out drumming following in the footsteps of his older brother John. His father was an accomplished singer and front man, and Mike’s sister Karen plays piano. Music was always permeating throughout the household, including the music of Genesis, Yes, ELP, and The Beatles. Mike started guitar at age 11 and had formal lessons from jazz instructor Bill Johnson out of New Jersey. John started drumming at age 13. His influences include John Bonham, Carl Palmer, Dave Weckl and Buddy Rich among many others. He studied with local instructors and played in school bands as a teenager. After years of playing in area clubs, he moved out west to attend The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where he graduated with honors. John toured the Vegas casino circuit and the world aboard cruise ships before returning to his native Delaware where he seeks challenging musical opportunities such as Tarkus.
