Unforgettable Fire: U2 Tribute
UF is the longest-running U2 tribute band in the United States. About Unforgettable Fire Website | Facebook | Instagram | Youtube Unforgettable Fire, or “UF”, was born on New Years Day in 1995 as one of the very first U2 tribute bands to ever perform in America. After twenty years of playing in some of the most prestigious venues on the East Coast, UF has formed a reputation among many to be one of the closest experiences to being at an actual live U2 show. The members of UF are also very dedicated fans of U2, and will not settle for anything less than complete authenticity. In addition to performing a very impressive array of U2 material from pre-Boy to the most recent Songs of Innocence and beyond, the band does everything in their power (from wardrobe to lighting) to recreate the live U2 concert setting for their audiences.In 2015, UF was invited to perform at The Cutting Room in New York City for the 20th Anniversary Party for the U2 fan website “@U2.” Not planned was the sudden and surprise appearance of both The Edge and Adam Clayton, who showed up a little before 9:00 PM and played two songs with UF — much to the shock and delight of everyone in the club.One of UF’s last founding members from 1995, drummer George (Larry) Levesanos, still performs with the band. George is a veteran drummer on the New York City music scene and has performed in many other projects before forming UF. Joining the band in the summer of 2001 was singer Tony (Bono) Russo. Over the years, Tony has brought UF to a new level of authenticity as he is regarded as one of the country’s top Bono look-a-likes. In late 2002, bassist Craig (Adam) Kiell added his top notch musicianship, experience, and stage presence to the band and has been a crucial part of the solid rhythm section ever since. Late 2004 brought Mick (Edge) Normoyle to the band to complete the last piece of its puzzle in its quest to have the truest, most authentic live U2 sound. All four members of UF are talented musicians in their own right, but together they are committed to bring their audiences the best possible U2 show that they can deliver.

Among the best of them is Waynard Scheller and RainbowFull of Sound (RFoS). Thanks to talent and many hundred shows’ worth ofpractice, they’re standouts. In 2023 they will explore the Dead’s most creativeera, the decade of the ‘70s.The continuing link is Waynard, whose roots in music include a ragtime-piano-playing grandfather, guitar-toting hippie babysitters, and a mom whotaught him classics like “Heart and Soul.” By the age of 10 he was playingguitar and taking lessons in voice and theory. But when he heard the Dead’sTerrapin Station, he moved over to piano and realized it was his musical destiny.His first Dead-oriented band was called Changing Planes. He spent a decadeplaying R & B and Motown in a band with his vocalist sister Sudie, but camehome to the jam band world when he and former members of the Long Islandlegends the Zen Tricksters became Jam Stampede.He also worked with John Kadlecik, co-founder of Dark Star Orchestra andnow guitarist for Melvin Seals and JGB. Actually, Waynard has probably workedwith a majority of the players in the jam band world, from Zach Nugent (once ofJGB) to Jason Crosby and Grahame Lesh of the Lesh Family Band.Bruce Hornsby once remarked that Grateful Dead songs had become“hymns” – in fact, they really are a new canon of traditional American music.Their appeal, Waynard says, is two-fold; there’s the sheer eclectic gumbo ofbluegrass, jazz, blues, R & B and you-name-it that is fused into what they did,what the songs represent—but “best of all is the improvisational nature of themusic, the opportunity to explore the unknown, to have no earthly idea whatwill come next, which is the most inspiring part of it.”It’s a musical adventure, and Waynard and RFoS are the ideal boat totake on the ride.
